Olives
square in relation to the landscape
Trieste - Italy - 2007
The square of Bagnoli della Rosandra is the undisputed urban center of the town, a meeting point of streams, events and activities throughout the country. Today the square is a place of transit or parking, its potential is still unexpressed. The project extends the edges of the square beyond the simple space between existing buildings, reproposing the historically existing relationship with the church on one side and on the other, the tension towards the path that leads to Val Rosandra. The current urban void thus assumes a dynamic form. The focus of the proposal is the inclusion in the new piazza in two curved rows of olive trees, which bear witness to the link with the history, culture and landscape of Bagnoli della Rosandra. A single element, lime, located in a strategic point, creates a visual target and is a meeting place and pause in the flow of the square. Regarding flooring and outdoor furniture, we have opted for the use of local materials such as sandstone and white Istrian stone; for the lighting we have chosen modern elements, light and transparent, introducing to the square a strong sense a sense of the contemporary and scenic qualities.
