Tracks
urban park at the centre of a renewed district
Copenhagen - Denmark - 2004
The competition area is located in an open area in the built fabric of Copenhagen due to the past presence of a railway junction. The nature of the site and its previous identity inspired the project idea: a multi-purpose park, open and bright, suitable for meetings or solitude, sports or relaxation. The area has been divided into two distinct environments, a narrow corridor along the western edge and the large "courtyard" surrounded by great avenues of limes towards the opposite edge. On one hand the world of speed and transition, on the other that of quietness. In the first case, the composition is dictated by the route of the old track, which becomes the matrix for attractive episodes as ponds, pavilions and plazas. The “courtyard” refers instead to the surrounding urban fabric with its curtains built around a central void; inside facilities for sport and play are provided. For the entire park characteristic elements are topographic banks and undulations, which emphasize the main lines of the project.
