Island
open space of a luxury hotel
Venice - Italy - 2000
Venice lagoon. A landscape characterized by the horizontality of land and sea where light changes the perception of the forms. In the northern Adriatic, in an area of high natural values and a strong artistic and historic presence, thanks to the vicinity of the city of Venice, dozens and dozens of islands and islets look at the bell tower of San Marco while having an autonomous life. The smallest are bound to specific areas of prayer, retreat or imprisonment. It is the case of San Clemente, originally used as a monastery, readapted and extended for the construction of a psychiatric hospital, for hundreds of patients. Currently the island of San Clemente has been transformed into a tourist resort with a luxury hotel and related open air activities, near Venice but excluded from the great circuit. The project brings together land and water, indoor and outdoor spaces, courtyards and public areas offering visitors the possibility to enjoy all aspects of the island.
