Traces
historical and archaeological garden
Asolo - Italy - 2012
The medieval walls of the medieval Asolo - always beloved by the British - is attached to a garden typical of the houses located on the hillside of the fortress of Asolo which dominates the valley on one side of the lower parts of the Alps and on the other the Venetian plain. The project for the restoration of the garden is multilayered because it contains the remains of the Roman theater and the remains of an English garden of Victorian style. These two layers blend with the historical values of the extraordinary landscape and the needs of the new owners and future visitors. The project is based on extraordinary documents on the past of garden through photographs in black and white and paintings by Hebert Young, paintings and writings by Flora Stark and writings by Freya Stark, daughter of Flora, famous writer and explorer and honorary citizen of the town of Asolo.
