Mediterranean Landscapes
park for outdoor theatre by the sea
Pantelleria - Italy - 2010
An outdoor theater, a new beach and a point of information for the island’s most important archaeological site are placed in a quarry, now abandoned, stretching along the coast for about 600 meters, oriented towards the west with a view of Africa. The proposal offers a long embankment dividing the dangerous rock wall of the quarry from the visitable area, permitting a spontaneous development in the dangerous area. The quarryreconnects with a network of existing paths. Inspired by the typical “tree house” of Pantelleria the circular shape is re-invented for creating gardens. The proposed solution takes into account the lack of water sources, a strong Mistral wind, the heat of the black volcanic stone, and very high temperatures in summer.
