crematorium at the woodland cemetery
Stockholm - Sweden - 2009
The proposal respects the woodland cemetery designed by Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz during the first half of the 20th century by following their basic principles of modesty, simplicity, elegance and the use of modern technology. The name of the project, Woodland Shimmer, is a reference to the light of the forest, unique and extraordinary. The light that playfully crosses through the tree crowns hits the ground casting infinite shadows in eternal movement. The layout takes advantage of the location of the trees, in order to organise the space from a functional and a symbolic point of view; the openings of the building match to the location of the trees.
